FAQs for Participating Clubs
Is there a fee to participate?
No! Participation by clubs is free.
(Though we are looking for co-sponsors! Please contact us.)
When is the deadline to sign up?
Priority deadline is September 9. We will accept applications on a rolling basis until we're full. Clubs who apply earlier may be accepted earlier.
Can two or more clubs share tables at the fair?
It depends. Two dissimilar clubs should not co-table. Similar clubs – such as multiple chapters of a larger organization, or multiple congregations within a faith – may agree to share one or more tables as long as the table is not overstaffed.
My organization is not a club itself, but an umbrella organization. May we table?
We welcome umbrella organizations that serve as organizers or conveners of other clubs or associations, and are willing to guide potential joiners to their respective organizations.
Examples: a federation of multiple congregations within a faith, or an office of local government that supports multiple neighborhood associations are welcome.
Will tables have electricity? Can we present videos or play music?
Some, but not all tables will be near power outlets. Clubs desiring electricity should specify so in their application. Clubs may present video or other visuals on their own devices. Audio presentations are discouraged unless headphones are provided. Clubs must provide their own power cables. No cables posing a trip hazard may be run.
What do you consider a “club?” If more clubs apply than you have room for, how will you choose?
Generally, preference will be given to member-run organizations, with an engagement model fairly described as ‘joining’ (rather than merely attending or volunteering).
Informal ‘meetup’-style groups that create recurring social connections are also welcome to apply.
Examples: a bowling league where participants join a team or a bicycling club where participants elect routes would qualify, while a health club or gym generally would not.
The organizers also wish to present a wide assortment of opportunities and reserve the right to distribute representation among similar applicants.
Can political parties, campaigns, or partisan political organizations participate?
This is our pilot year. Because our inaugural organizers include nonprofit organizations, we are restricted from providing platforms for political organizations. Organizations that encourage general civic participation in a clearly non-partisan manner are welcome to apply.
We’d like to co-sponsor this event with you. May we?
Yes! Event sponsors will be named in all marketing/communications including posters, social profiles, website and day-of-event collaterals. Contact JoinUp! organizers for more information about sponsorship levels.
Why are you doing this?
Social connections foster civic trust and reciprocity... which are unfortunately in decline. Those things are not only important for a healthy community, but a healthy democracy. Helping people recognize what a healthy democracy looks like is one of our goals.
In other words, what you’re doing within your club benefits us all. So, thank you!
